Automation journey scale
Each process is placed on a scale from 0 to 10. Pick the description that fits how the work is done today on the main path.
| Rating | What it looks like | Stage it starts |
|---|---|---|
| 0 | Fully manual | Stage 0, Manual |
| 2 | Standard tools and templates | Stage 1, Digitized |
| 4 | Rules-based automation on the main path | Stage 2, Automating |
| 6 | Agent-assisted, and a person decides | Stage 3, Agent-assisted |
| 8 | Agents perform, and a person reviews, with controls and an audit trail | Stage 4, Agentic |
| 10 | Agents operate within tested controls, with monitoring and a named person who owns each control | Stage 4, Agentic |
Odd numbers (1, 3, 5, 7, 9) sit between two descriptions. Use them when the work is partway between.
Two other answers
- Don't know. You cannot say how the work is done.
- Doesn't apply. The process does not exist in your company.
Unknown is never zero. A process answered "Don't know" or "Doesn't apply" is left out of the roll-up and lowers coverage instead of the score.
How process ratings roll up
Proposed rules, version journey-v1
These rules are proposed and may change. Changes are recorded in the changelog.
- Journey score for an area = mean of the rated processes in the area x 10, giving 0 to 100.
- An area needs at least half of its processes rated to get a score.
- The overall journey score needs at least 3 of the 8 areas scored.
- Coverage is always shown beside the score: how many processes and areas were rated.
- Every score carries the label Self-assessed. Nobody requires you to reach the top of the scale.
This scale answers "how is the work done?" It is separate from workflow efficiency and the GAAPx Score. See how the score works.
